The Best Method of Weight Loss for Men

Men can lose weight easier and faster than women. They have more muscle mass which contributes to their calorie burning so it takes much less effort on their part to drop a few pounds when they need to. The good news is that weight loss for men is usually simply a matter of choosing a plan and sticking to it. There are some common reasons why overweight men can’t seem to get the weight off:

Problem: Men prefer strength training to aerobic exercises. When you go to the gym, most likely every male in the place is going to be around the weights and the heavy lifting machines. Although strength training is great for building muscle and muscle burns calories faster, you have to have some cardio to burn the fat. Strength training alone is not enough. Make sure you choose a plan that is designed to burn fat and build muscle and you will speed your weight loss considerably.

Problem: Skipping meals. Often, dieting for weight loss for men consists of skipping lunch. Unfortunately, for a large number of them, this only builds up their appetite for supper. They may end up eating far more calories than they would have with a sensible lunch. Try to eat throughout the day, even if you end up eating multiple small meals instead of three large ones.

Problem: They don’t know what they are doing. Many men are under the impression that as long as they cut out a little something here or there that they should lose the weight. However, they aren’t considering protein, fats, or carbohydrates that they are or aren’t consuming. Muscle is made of protein and they have to consume protein in order to get the results they want from their efforts. Also, drinking beer to wash down food is not the same as drinking water. Successful weight loss for men will often require them to greatly reduce or stop drinking alcohol.

Problem: They don’t increase their activity level. Sitting in front of the TV and clicking the remote isn’t going to burn any calories or you wouldn’t be trying to lose weight in the first place. Every healthy, fat burning plan that is designed for weight loss for men or for women is going to include exercise in one form or the other.

Problem: Not setting goals. When you don’t have a clear idea of where you want to end up and how you are going to get there, you allow yourself too many opportunities to quit before you have accomplished the weight loss that you need. If you aren’t the type to keep a food diary, at least mark on the calendar what day you expect to reach your five pound or ten pound loss and keep a record of your weight. One of the best things you can do is get on a structured plan, and keep track of how you are doing. Knowing how far you have come will help you stay motivated.

Even though men have the ability to accomplish their goals with more ease than women, they can be their own worst enemy when it comes time to lose a few pounds. It is worth the effort for you to find a plan and stick with it to improve both your appearance and your health!
