How to Lose Baby Weight Once the Baby is Here!

Wondering how to lose baby weight? Not every woman who gives birth gains the same amount of weight during pregnancy. Some of them seem to go right back to their pre-pregnancy size and shape as soon as the baby arrives while others may be thirty or forty pounds overweight!

Here are some tips on how to lose baby weight and get back to where you were before your pregnancy.

  • If you aren’t sure about whether you will nurse your baby or not, consider this. You will burn between 300 and 500 calories a day when you breast feed. This is the equivalent to running two miles or doing 30 laps in the pool. Besides, not only will it help you burn fat, it is much better for your baby!

  • Buy a great new outfit in your pre-pregnancy size while you are still pregnant. Once the baby arrives, hang the outfit where you will see it daily. Try it on frequently to help you stay realistic about your progress and keep your goals fresh in your mind.
  • Don’t use extreme dieting. There are many guides on how to lose baby weight that will have you reducing your calorie intake by eating foods that don’t provide you with the nutrition you need. Chances are that you are going to need more energy than ever and cutting your nutrient consumption will keep you from getting what your body needs.

Instead, just follow a healthy plan rather than one that is designed to show you how to lose baby weight fast. Eat baked or broiled lean meats and increase your vegetables and fruits. A salad once a day with green, leafy vegetables that is topped with roasted chicken and almonds will provide you with a low calorie meal that has protein, vitamins, and minerals that you should have every day. Your body needs time to recover. Begin to add a workout into your routine—select a plan designed to burn fat and build muscle to boost your energy and speed weight loss.

  • Don’t start doing hundreds of sit-ups every day in an attempt to get rid of the stomach flab, especially if you have had a caesarean birth! Although the sooner you begin an exercise program, the more effective it will be, don’t get in a hurry and end up harming your body so that you have to wait a long time to get back in shape. Ask your doctor if you are ready to start exercising. Try to find a plan that includes short workouts a few times a week, rather than one long marathon session—quality is more important than quantity.
  • Don’t push your body faster than it wants to go. How to lose baby weight is different than how to lose regular fat that isn’t the result of pregnancy. Your body will let you know if it isn’t ready to be pushed and you should listen to it. It will know when it is ready to “go for the burn”.

The best way to get in shape after pregnancy is to continue exercising during pregnancy. Ask your doctor what your limits should be and you may be able to continue exercising throughout your pregnancy.
